Congressman William Jordan Graves Family Headstone

 Congressman William Jordan Graves Graves served in the state and US Legislature many years. They were friends with Thomas and Mary Graves. He died in 1848 and his wife was visting her niece Mary Emma Graves in Chaplin. The County Sheriff road from Bardstown to the Graves Farm in Chaplin KY. to notify Emily Graves of the death of her husband. Records indicate he was paid twenty five cents. He was famous as a friend of Henry Clay and the last legal duel in the US before it was outlawed by Congress. The duel was held with long rifes and Congressman Graves prevailed as the better shot.
