First, I do not claim to be an expert in the cleaning of headstones. I have sought the advice of several monument companies. I have used the following method on Marble (Black and White), Granite, Concrete and even Limestone. I have not tried this on Sandstone, although I think it would probably not be a problem. You should assess the condition of the stone prior to cleaning. I would not attempt this on a headstone that was crumbling. Some of the stones that I cleaned were done four years ago. There is no noticeable damage and to the contrary, I have seen the algae actually start a hole that became larger. The following are items you will need. The quote given to clean the monument was $700.00 from a monument company. The cost of all items was about $50.00 -- and the sprayer goggles, gloves and other items could be used again.
